Locally and family-owned, Virginia Ever-Green proudly serves Prince William County and the surrounding areas. Prince William County boasts the largest protected natural area in the Greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan region with over 16,000 acres. Located along the Potomac River, the County recognizes its role in contributing to the quality of clean air, water, and the environment. Like the county, Virginia Ever-Green is committed to protecting the Chesapeake waterway and cares deeply about what enters the water stream. This is why we offer an organically based lawn fertilizer as our standard treatment program.

A destination for tourists throughout the year, Prince William County is home to many different recreational facilities and parks. Below we describe three of the most popular.

Manassas National Battlefield Park

History and nature come together at the Manassas National Battlefield Park. It is a 5,000 acre park and site of the First and Second Battle of Manassas, also known as the Battle of Bull Run. The park offers the perfect back-drop for learning and exploring the American Civil War. The Battle of Bull Run took place on July 21, 1861, between the Union and Confederate armies. In August 1862, both armies converged on the land and feuded again.

The park is known for its scheduled tours that include walking, driving, and equestrian, as well as annual battle commemorative events and living history demonstrations. The visitors center hosts a new theater featuring the film “Manassas: End of Innocence.” The 45-minute video is narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss and follows the stories of five individuals whose lives were forever changed by the battles. Artifacts and exhibits from the First Battle of Manassas are displayed in the Henry Hill Visitor Center museum.

Leesylvania State Park

Leesylvania State Park is a registered historic landmark located along the shores of the Potomac River. It was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years and was discovered by Capt. John Smith in 1608. Nestled along the flowing waters of the historic Potomac River, amenities include a variety of land and water activities, including hiking, picnicking, fishing, and boating. Canoe and kayaks are available for rent. It also contains a fishing pier, playground, boat launch, boat storage area, snack bar, visitors center, and gift shop. A small, tents-only primitive campground is available for groups.

The park has five hiking trails that glide through beautiful areas along the Potomac River and contains an array of scenic overlooks, including one on the remains of the gun emplacement at Freestone Point Confederate Battery. The Potomac River is considered fresh water and is home to many largemouth bass, catfish, perch, and striped bass. Gas-powered boats are allowed, and the boat launch has parking for up to 186 cars or trailers. The park also rents out sailboats through the Northern Virginia Sailing School.

Prince William Forest Park

Experience the natural side of northern Virginia at Prince William Forest Park. Hosting a variety of outdoor activities, the park has over 12 miles of paved roads and over nine miles of gravel roads for biking. With over 37 miles of hiking trails, it has the most extensive hiking trail in northern Virginia. It is the premier camping site with both areas for tents, recreational vehicles, and cabin rentals. Prince William Forest Park connects to Quantico Creek and 80 percent of the Quantico Creed Watershed. With 18 miles of streams, numerous fish can be found in the freshwater, such as bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, and channel catfish.
